In 1945, José Gancedo Otero and his brother Bernardo - taking advantage of their experience in the textile world - founded a fabric store for decoration in Barcelona: it was the origin of Tapicerías Gancedo. In a post-war period, in which the shortage governed daily life, Gancedo managed to manufacture and import quality fabrics with latest fashion designs.

The rapid growth of this business meant that, in 1950, Pepe Gancedo - son of the founder and textile engineer - moved to Madrid to open a second store on Recoletos street. It was during this second generation, when the company expanded to the national level, becoming the most leading business of that time. In 1969, a fabric design studio was created, from which Gancedo becomes a textile editor, creating his own collections each season.
